RULES RELATING TO THE CONSTITUTION AND WORKING OF THE

COLLEGE


1.Constitution of the College:

1.1 This Government Law College, Ramanathapuram is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai from the Academic year 2017 -2018 and offers instructions to the students preparing for the following courses:

(a) LL.B. (3-year Course)

(b) B.A. LL.B. (5-year Course)

(c) LL.M. (Constitutional Law and Administrative Law)

1.2 The Departmental control over the institution and the executive management of the college vest with the Director of Legal Studies, Chennai and Principal, Government Law College, Ramanathapuram respectively.

1.3 The teaching staff shall ordinarily consist of the Principal, Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Guest Lecturers, who are appointed by the Government. The duties of the members of the staff shall be determined by the Principal.

2.Academic Calendar

Academic calendar consists of two semesters. Each semester is consisting of 90 working days. Shortage of 90 working days shall be compensated by working on Saturdays and by conducting special classes.

Odd Semester:

Instruction classes  – As per the Order of the Director of the Legal Studies, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Examinations         – As per the Order of the Controller of Examinations, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.

Vacation                 – As per the Order of the Director of the Legal Studies, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Even Semester:

Instruction classes    – As per the Order of the Director of the Legal Studies, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Examinations           – As per the Order of the Controller of Examinations, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.

Vacation                   – As per the Order of the Director of the Legal Studies, Government of Tamil Nadu.

NOTE: Days on which the university examinations are held shall not be included among the days in which the attendance may be earned and the examination  shall not count as instruction hours.


3.Tuition Fees

a) Tuition fees will be received in the College office with or without fine and as per the direction of Director of Legal Studies.
b) All fees shall be paid in advance in the College office together with fine, if any. The receipt for the tuition fees paid in the College office should be attached with the application for admission.
c) If a student fails to pay the tuition fees due by him on the day fixed for payment, (s)he will have to pay a fine of Rs.2/- per day and if the fees is not paid before the date fixed by the Directorate of Legal Studies, (s)he will not be admitted to the concerned semester. If readmitted (s)he must, in addition to the fees, pay fine. In addition to the tuition fees, special fees have to be paid as provided.
d) Tuition fees shall be paid only by the candidate through cash. Payment made through M.O, DD, Cheque or sent through post will not be accepted.

4.Hours of Instructions: The instruction classes shall ordinarily be held between 9:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The general scheme of study shall be arranged by the Head of the institution subject to availability of staff and administrative convenience. No material change shall be made in the time table except under the authority of the Principal. Students are expected to attend class tests as may from time to time be prescribed by the head of the institution and failure to do so without good reasons would entail forfeiture of his semester attendance certificate and the student would not be permitted to take part in the University Examinations.

5.Special Lecture: Besides Class room lectures, Special lectures on selected topics will be delivered by eminent persons, Personalities in the field of Law and other related Disciplines. Students should attend these Special Lecture Compulsory.

6.Holiday: The miscellaneous holidays allowed in Rule 77 chapter VI of the Madras Educational Rules, shall apply to the college in so far as its special character would allow.

7.Rules for Transfer cum Conduct Certificate and Identity Card:

(a) Students who apply for Transfer Certificate and Conduct Certificate for the first time within a period of one year after leaving the college will be granted such certificate free of cost. Those who apply for such certificates after the lapse of one year but within three years from the date on which they left the college will have to pay a late fee of Rs. 50/-. After wards for every subsequent year Rs. 50/- shall be charged.

(b) Students who apply for a duplicate copy of transfer certificate or conduct certificate within a period 2 years of leaving the college will have to pay a fee of Rs. 50/-. Thereafter, for every subsequent year Rs. 50/- shall be charged.

(c) Identity card will be issued to the students on production of first term fee receipt. The identity card is issued in the first year will be valid till the completion of the course. Every student is expected to possess Identity Card issued to him/her by the college office inside the campus and show it on demand by the college authorities to get books from library, receive scholarship cheques and other academic purposes. Duplicate identity card will be issued only when the student has lost it. The fee for duplicate identity card is Rs. 50/-. The duplicate identity card will be issued by the Librarian after 7 days from the date of application and payment of Rs. 50/- in this regard.
